Secondly, now that you've managed to beat the Vanguard Demon you will be able to head to a secret area of the game. The tutorial will then come to a surprising end - you can find out exactly what happens if you beat the Vanguard Demon by clicking here , but if you don't want to have this spoiled for you then stay clear of that clip.
At the time of writing Demon's Souls hasn't got a Metacritic rating, with critics in the early stages of their playthroughs and not issuing scores right now. But so far early impressions have been extremely positive. It feels somewhat reductive to focus on how pretty it looks, but having played a handful of hours, it's currently what commands my attention the most.
As people around the world invest in expensive new consoles, it's incredibly validating to play a game that is clearly taking a stride forward, so forgive me if I sound a bit superficial--but good grief is it pretty. Although, players do have the option to defeat the boss if they are skilled enough. Upon defeating it, the player will be rewarded with a few hundred souls and a Grey Demon's Soul. Players will then also be able to warp to the location of where the Dragon God is. They will be greeted to a cutscene of the Dragon God slamming its fist into the ground and instantly killing the player.
The game will then continue as normal. While the prize is small, players are more so invested in the challenge of defeating Vanguard since they will begin with their beginner stats and weapons. Here's how players can defeat it.
Vanguard will eliminate the player within 1 to 2 hits. The best way to go about defeating the boss would be to keep your distance and study its attack patterns. It seems that the general strategy, if a player wants to try the challenge of beating the tutorial boss, is to dodge to the left of his attacks and jump back to avoid a follow-up strike. If the player manages to defeat the boss in the tutorial, they'll be teleported to an area known as an "Unknown Egress.
As the player navigates through the area, they'll find a few bits of Full Moon Grass, a powerful healing item that serves as a significant early-game reward. They'll also find a few shards of hardstone, an ore used to upgrade weapons.
This all seems like a nice reward from developers FromSoftware. However, it's important to remember that this is still a Soul's game and that the player dying is still a key part of the game's plot.
There's still one more "reward" waiting for the player in the Unknown Egress. As the player reaches the end of this area, they'll come face to face with one of Demon's Souls later bosses, the Dragon God.
Unfourtently, players won't have the chance to take down another boss early on, as a cutscene plays once the player gets too close.
